Down & Out: Ryan Williams Tears Patella Tendon.

Early in the second half of Arizona’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, Packers’ safety Anthony Levine brought Ryan Williams down to the turf and he stayed there. Reports say that Williams ruptured his patella tendon and will most likely miss the entire season. During the free agency period the Cards dealt Tim Hightower to the Washington Redskins for DE Vonnie Holiday and a future draft pick. This trade now appears to be disastrous.

The Cardinals must now rely on Chris Beanie Wells who in two seasons has amassed just shy of 1,200 rushing yards and 9 total touchdowns. LaRod Stephens-Howling, the now back up to Wells, has a hair over 100 rushing yards and only 2 total scores in two career seasons. Based on these two stellar résumés, the Cardinals are going to have to make a move for a RB. With guys like Tiki Barber, Dominic Rhodes, Brian Westbrook, and Fred Taylor making up the ‘talent’ available in free agency, that move is most likely going to have to come in the form of a trade.

The Dallas Cowboys’ Tashard Choice could be an option for the Cardinals. The Cowboys’ drafted Oklahoma RB DeMarco Murray and have second year RB Lonyae Miller to back up Felix Jones so the idea of dealing Choice is not that farfetched.

The Carolina Panthers’ are certainly a candidate with RB Mike Goodson sitting as #3 on their depth chart. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will dominate nearly every carry Newton gives and Goodson is purely their insurance policy. Goodson took about 100 carries for over 450 yards last year and found the endzone 3 times. His flashes of talent near the end of the year are probably enough to entice an offer from the Birds in the Desert.

Who do you think will step up to take the place of Ryan Williams? Post a comment and let me know!
